Diana Brown

How did I get here?

My name is Diana Brown. I'm a wife and a mom and a highly motivated professional. I started my drafting journey in 2006 as a Sophomore at Newtown High School using AutoCAD for various architectural projects. I had a great teacher that really believed in me and gave me many opportunities to grow outside of school, which I believe set me up for the career I thrive in today. As an artist with a love for drawing, the hand-drawn aspect of architectural prints is what first peaked my interest in this as a potential career. I quickly realized that CAD was replacing the need for sketched designs and focused more on learning the capabilities of the software. From high school, I continued my journey at Porter and Chester Institute, where I both perfected my skills in AutoCAD as well as landed my first job in the field. I worked part time while I finished school for a company in New Milford, CT using AutoCAD to design and engrave nameplates for large power transformers and rectifiers. During this time they allowed me to teach myself how to use Autodesk Inventor so that I could start full-time as a Mechanical Designer when I graduated. I worked mostly on their CSA certified hazardous location oil-filled transformers, but also helped with everything from design of transformer cores to electrical panels, schematics, enclosures and everything in between. Four years later I started taking classes at the local community college to expand my knowledge in the engineering aspects of my job. There, I was recruited by one of my professors for a position at FuelCell Energy where I worked in the Advanced Technology division on various research and development contracts. I believe this position is what shaped me into the professional I am today. Working on this side of the company required me to perform many tasks that aren't normally expected of a Designer, but which helped me gain the variety of experience that pushed me to start DeeBee Drafting & Design. I feel comfortable saying I can add substantial value to your project and I can't wait to continue this journey with you.Â
